Thank you for your comment. Yes the empty bottles in the developing world may be unsightly but bottled water is the only source of clean water for many people. There is no refuse removal services such as we are used to.
I suppose that, for sure, bottled water will stay, though may be we'll recycle the bottles more effectively. You can't even imagine how many empty bottles can be seen in the streets of developing countries. They cause huge mess, and people burn them, thus causing damage to the environment.

Thanks for a good read. I actually totally agree with you that bottled water is imporant. Look at the crisis right now in Haiti, do you see what they are passing out to thousands of people, bottled water. It is critical to have a product that can quickly get in the hands of people in need of water, what is the best way, bottled water. In Andrews, Texas, there are some serious water issues. They are waiting on a grant to cover treatment costs, but in the meantime they are drinking bottled water. There are many reasons why bottled water is important. There are even bottles now that are fully compostable, so people can still use bottled water and still be "green".

Dear Sir,

I am from India and into water Industry from past 12 years, earlier the tax was a mere one but after VAT coming in India, bottled water is being taxed at 12.5% per bottle, i.e. if we charge 45 INR per 5 gallon bottle we pay up 5 INR per bottle. Other than this we pay up tax on PET bottles, caps and labels. So in all we are paying Tax on bottles, caps, labels and water. We are trying to oppose but nothing has been happening as of now.

bottled water is a drain on the green economy but the FACT remains you can not drink tap water with your eyes closed. There are 'things' in public water you do not want in your body, period. Bottle water is expensive and a burden on the planet, but it maybe somewhat healthier. You may consider an effective home filtration system instead of bottled or tap.
